Relebohile Mofokeng and Jayden Adams on the scoresheet as Bafana Bafana climbs to the top of Group C in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after a 2-0 win over Lesotho at a sold-out Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday.

While the victory was crucial, South Africa could have scored more, with Percy Tau and Iqraam Rayners both missing good chances.

The win pushed Bafana to 10 points after five matches, two points ahead of second-place Benin, who drew 2-2 with Zimbabwe. South Africa will now face Benin at a neutral venue in Ivory Coast on Tuesday, aiming to extend their lead.
Before the match, the South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed the sold-out crowd, showing increased interest in Bafana Bafana after their impressive African Cup of Nations performance last year.
Relebohile Mofokeng, fresh off a great performance for Orlando Pirates, was given a start and nearly scored early, but his shot went wide. Percy Tau, whose relationship with fans has been rocky, also returned to the starting lineup.
Bafana dominated possession and kept Lesotho on the defensive for most of the game. However, their final passes lacked precision, giving the visitors opportunities to regroup.
Nkosinathi Sibisi’s header was cleared off the line, and Mofokeng’s attempt was saved in an unorthodox manner by Lesotho’s goalkeeper, Benedict Moerane.
The breakthrough came in the 60th minute when Mofokeng, assisted by Elias Mokwana, scored from close range.
Four minutes later, Bafana doubled their lead through a shot from Adams, which was initially blocked but followed up for the goal.
Lesotho offered little in attack, and the game ended with Bafana securing a vital win, moving to the top of the group as Rwanda lost to Nigeria.
