Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef reveals when the club will look to compete for league honours.

Speaking ahead of their Sunday, the 26th of January 2025, clash at FNB Stadium Ben Youssef reveals how the Nedbank Cup is one of the competition the club is looking to win in the immediate future while they are still building the squad to compete for league honours in the coming years.
“To be honest with you what we have discussed about the project at Kaizer Chiefs is to beat the other team then next year or in two or three years it is to fight for the league,” Ben Youssef told the media.
He also went on to discuss the club’s ambition of returning to African football and competing among the best clubs in the continent.
“We have to come back, when I was young, I remember I used to see Kaizer Chiefs in the African Cup[CAF competitions] in the finals or semifinals, it was one of the best teams in Africa.”
He further went on to share how he is preparing his players to play against the third division side, having in the recent history saw the club lose to lower divisions clubs.
“For us as coaches, when you play a cup game, you have to be careful when you play a team in the lower division,” Ben Youssef added.
Like I said, we have to prepare mentally. It is a very difficult game, it’s a cup game. It is not like when you play a big team against a big team, the players prepare themselves already because they know they have to perform. They have to do well.
“As Africans we have problems when we play against teams in the lower division, we always think we will win the game before we play and for that, we have discussed it a lot with them [players].
We prepared them that this is going to be one of the most difficult games this season. We know what we have to do,” he concluded.
