Thapelo Morena celebrates his goal with Kuliso Mudau for Bafana Bafana against Zimbabwe during a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers match.

The qualifiers will see 48 teams competing in 12 groups of four, with the group winners and 11 runners-up earning spots in the prestigious tournament.

This eagerly anticipated competition will be held in Morocco between December 2025 and January 2026.

Bafana Bafana, under the guidance of coach Hugo Broos, were fortunate to be seeded in Pot 1.

This favourable seeding came as a result of South Africa’s 10th place ranking among CAF nations in the latest FIFA rankings.

This placement allowed them to avoid facing some of the continent’s top teams from the same pot.

In Group K, South Africa will face Uganda, Congo Brazzaville, and South Sudan.

Each of these teams presents a unique challenge, but Bafana Bafana are determined to secure their spot in the AFCON 2025 tournament.

Coach Broos and his team are preparing for a tough journey ahead, starting with the qualifiers that kick off in September 2024.

The full list of qualifying groups offers a glimpse into the exciting matchups we can expect.

Group A features Tunisia, Madagascar, Comoros, and The Gambia, while Group B has Morocco, Gabon, Central Africa, and Lesotho.

Other notable groups include Group C with Egypt, Cape Verde, Mauritania, and Botswana, and Group D where Nigeria will compete against Benin, Libya, and Rwanda.

Group E sees Algeria battling it out with Equatorial Guinea, Togo, and Liberia. Ghana, Angola, Sudan, and Niger make up Group F, while Group G includes Ivory Coast, Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Chad.

Group H features DR Congo, Guinea, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, and Group I has Mali, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, and eSwatini.

In Group J, Cameroon will face Namibia, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.
